Corporate Overview

MCM has implemented a Social Responsibility Program (SRP) to ensure that our manufacturing partners provide safe and healthy working conditions, and engage in fair and ethical employment practices which include:

Our Manufacturing Partners - And the Code of Conduct


The SRP is part of the review and qualification process for all of our suppliers and contract manufacturers and decorators. The SRP follows the standards and guidelines established by the Fair Labor Association through its published "Code of Conduct". MCM has been a member of the Fair Labor Association since 2002, an organization dedicated to promoting the FLA Code of Conduct and other principles that encourage the fair treatment of workers around the globe. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that they also abide by the Code of Conduct and their factories are safe and clean. A copy of the Code of Conduct is available upon request.

MCM recently completed a social compliance audit at our facility, making us one of the first companies in our product category to take this important initiative. Our social responsibility program is personally managed by company president, Robert Turner.

AHEAD OF THE CURVE: Mr. Turner has participated in an intensive training program in social compliance auditing procedures. This training and experience gives him a good idea of the issues, concerns and flags to look for as they visit our new and existing supplier companies.

Implementation - Small steps can affect change

To reach our goal of total compliance with the Social Responsibility Program, all subcontractors are required to sign, post and prove compliance with the FLA Code of Conduct by August of 2007. They are required also to conduct meetings with management and employees about the Code of Conduct and what it means.

Verification and Improvement - Working closer with our suppliers


The verification and improvement process means working closely with our suppliers, their management, representatives and agents to help them achieve our goals. The president of MCM has personally inspected our primary supplier’s facilities in the U.S. He also personally inspects our overseas plush factories biannually. Our representatives also visit these overseas factories a minimum of four times a year.

Over 81% of our raw products come from the U.S. manufactures. Of over 400 products in the MCM catalog, 67 or 19% come from overseas suppliers. Almost all products (97%) are decorated or custom imprinted here in the U.S. Just 12 products come in finished with no decoration or value added work required. Over 92% of our sales come from products manufactured in the U.S.

Community Involvement - Helping closer to home

A social responsibility program should also address issues close to home, and MCM is an active participant in many projects and goals in our community. In addition to donating thousands of teddy bears to several organizations each year, MCM has implemented several programs like our Helper Club that works with others to help children in need, and our "Great Bear Cub Run" that encourages kids to learn about and express their values.

Environmental Responsibility

The SRP further requires environment responsibility. Linked to this is our corporate objective of promoting conservation and the protection of wildlife. We at MCM believe that the natural world is awe inspiring and want to do what we can to help protect it. This is primarily achieved through in store signage, a rewards program, events, and classes offered at our outlet store in Chelsea, Michigan. We also donate to and actively promote the World Wildlife Fund and other conservation organizations. MCM has worked hard to develop a paperless office to save our natural recourse. In addition, many of our products are "Green Products" and minimize the impact on the environment, such as travel mugs that replace disposable mugs. We also recycle wherever possible as part of normal company policy.

Code of Conduct


MCM Group, Inc. WORKPLACE CODE OF CONDUCT

Forced Labor:  There shall not be any use of forced labor whether in the form of prison labor, indentured labor, bonded labor or otherwise.

Child Labor: No person shall be employed at an age younger than 15 (or 14 where the law of the country of manufacture allows) or younger than the age for completing compulsory education in the country of manufacture where such age is higher than 15.

Harassment or Abuse: Every employee shall be treated with respect and dignity. No employee shall be subject to any physical, sexual, psychological or verbal harassment or abuse.

Non-discrimination: No person shall be subject to any discrimination in employment, including hiring, salary, benefits, advancement, discipline, termination or retirement, on the basis of gender, race, age, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, political opinion, or social or ethnic origin.

Health and Safety: Employers shall provide a safe and healthy working environment to prevent accidents and injuries to healthy arising or of, linked with, or occurring in the course of work or as a result of the operation of employer facilities.

Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining: Employers shall recognize and respect the right of employees to freedom of association and collective bargaining.

Wages and Benefits: MCM recognizes that wages are essential to meeting employees' basic needs. Employers shall pay employees, as a floor, at least the minimum wage required by local law or the prevailing industry wage, whichever is higher, and shall provide legally mandated.

Hours of Work: Except in extraordinary business circumstances, employees shall (i) not be required to work more than the lesser of (a) 48 hour per week and 12 hours of overtime or (b) the limits on regular and overtime hours allowed by the law of the country of manufacture or, where the laws of such country do not limit the hours or work, the regular work week - in such country plus 12 hour overtime and (ii) be entitled to at least one day off in every seven day period.

Overtime Compensation: In addition to their compensation for regular hours of work, employees shall be compensated for overtime hours at such premium rate as is legally required in the country of manufacture or, in those countries where such laws do not exist, at a rate at least equal to their regular hourly compensation rate.

Social Compliance


MCM Social Compliance Audits

MCM abides by the FLA Code of Conduct, and requires all of our suppliers to comply. All suppliers companies are required to post, abide by and conduct regular meetings related to the FLA Code of Conduct. Signed copies of this policy, signed by the principles of supplier Company, are on file.

In, addition, MCM conducts regular Safety and Compliance Audits of our own manufacturing and distribution facility, as well as social compliance audits at our major supplies, through our own internal monitoring staff and independent, FLA accredited auditing firms. Copies of the inspection and audit reports are on file and are available upon request.

Plush Safety Program


MCM Group, Inc., and our plush brand the Chelsea Teddy Bear Company have established a regular testing program, conducted by independent 3rd party testing labs, ensuring that our plush toys comply with all requirements and regulations established under the CPSIA or any other act enforceable by the CPSC.

Rest assured that every factory order and every production run is tested for lead content, flammability, sharp points and phthalates, and meets all current U.S. laws and regulations including new labeling requirements.

Certificates of Conformity and lab test reports are on file and available upon request.
